Description
34-36 Kirk Wynd is an early 18th-century house, possibly incorporating earlier materials, situated in an irregular terrace to the south on ground that slopes to the west. The building is harled with painted margins and features a re-used strapwork cartouche and a dividing course.
The principal elevation faces west and includes a timber door on the outer left, above which is a cartouche dated '1638' and initialled 'MA ML'. To the right of the door is an enlarged window, followed by another door. The outer right has an advanced bay with another enlarged window. On the first floor, there are two windows to the left of center, a window in the advanced bay, and another window on the return to the left. The second floor features two windows close to the eaves and a small window below the catslide roof on the left return of the advanced bay.
The north elevation has steps leading up to the east, with a small window on the outer right at ground level, another window on the outer right, and a blinded window on the outer left at the second floor.
The east elevation has a segmental-headed door in the center and two windows to the left. It is adjacent to the wall of the Parish Church graveyard, which is listed separately, and there is another window beyond. The roof has two rooflights.
The windows are timber sash and case with a 12-pane glazing pattern, while the ground floor on the west has fixed small-pane glazing and casement windows on the east. The roof is covered with pantiles and has deep slate eaves easing courses, with the advanced bay on the right side also slated. The building features coped and harled grouped stacks with cans.
Inside, the first-floor room at the rear has a plaster masque, and the front room showcases exposed beams and a carved ship in a roundel.
The property is enclosed by coped rubble boundary walls at the rear.
