Description

8-10 Kirkgate in Burntisland is a pair of mid to later 19th century, two-storey terraced houses that have been converted into shops on the ground floor. They are located next to Nos 12-22 Kirkgate to the south. The buildings feature a full-width cornice with console brackets and are constructed of polished ashlar, which is painted at the ground level. There is a cill course and eaves course at the first floor, along with architraved windows, stone mullions, and chamfered arrises.

The entrance elevation has seven bays at the ground level. In the center, there is a deep-set panelled tenement door with a fanlight above it. To the right, there is a shop with a recessed part-glazed center door, also with a fanlight, and flanking display windows set over a low stone base course, topped by a full-width painted fascia. To the left, another shop features a central panelled door with a fanlight and windows in the flanking bays. The first floor has four bays with single windows in the center and bipartite windows on the outer sides.

The ground floor has plate glass glazing and top-opening uPVC windows, while the first floor retains a traditional 4-pane glazing pattern in sash and case windows. The roofs are covered with grey slates, and there are coped ashlar stacks with cans, ashlar coped skews, and decorative cast-iron downpipes with rainwater hoppers.
