Description

Morven is an earlier 20th-century crowstepped and gabled house. It is two storeys high and has three bays. The exterior is built of polychrome brick, with alternating header and stretcher courses, and features ashlar detailing. The detailing includes crowstepped gables, battered ashlar coping to the base course, a moulded dividing course, and brick mullions.

The east (entrance) elevation is symmetrical. A step with flanking walls and ball finials leads to a wide, deep-set, two-leaf panelled timber door within a pilastered doorway. The doorway has a dentilled cornice and a semicircular fanlight with decorative astragals, keystones, and voussoir detailing. Tripartite windows are in the flanking bays, with the one to the right slightly advanced and featuring flanking corbels that give way to a full-width dividing course. The first floor has a small recessed window at the centre, flanked by bipartite windows in dominant crowstepped gables, which incorporate arrow slits (the one to the left being slightly larger).

The west elevation features an advanced, flat-roofed bay at the centre, with a window at both floors and a smaller window on the return to the left at the first floor. A gable, also advanced, is to the right, with a patio door at ground level and a bipartite window at the first floor. To the left of the centre is a bay containing a single-storey lean-to roof over a wide window, flanked by a window to the right and a door to the left, with a bipartite window above in a recessed crowstepped gable.

On the south elevation, a window is centrally placed at ground level, with a stair window above in an advanced chimney breast with a dominant, crowstepped-shouldered stack. The north elevation has a ground floor window with a corbelled left shoulder and head in a slightly advanced, crowstepped gable to the left of the centre. There is a small window at gablehead, and a dominant stack breaking the gable to the right. A ground floor window is in a bay to the right, and to the outer right is a single-storey, crowstepped lean-to.

The windows on the east elevation at the first floor have a small-pane glazing pattern over a plate glass lower sash in timber sash and case windows. Remaining windows have modern plate glass glazing. The roof is covered in green slates. The chimney stacks are coped with brick and have cans, and there are cast-iron downpipes with decorative rainwater hoppers.

The interior includes a dog-leg staircase with a timber handrail and balusters, ball-finialled newel posts, and drop finials.

A small, rectangular-plan, crowstepped brick outbuilding with a part-glazed boarded timber door and window stands nearby. Coped brick boundary walls enclose the property.
