Clinic, Betson Street, Markinch

The building is a clinic located on Betson Street in Markinch, dated 1915. It is a single-storey, L-plan structure situated on a corner site, featuring stylised classical details. The exterior is harled with stone cills and polished ashlar dressings, complemented by a deep base course, a mutuled cornice, and a deep blocking course.

On the southwest elevation, which serves as the entrance, there is a canted corner with four steps leading up to a deep-set, two-leaf panelled timber door. This door is topped with a two-pane and border-glazed fanlight, all set within a moulded doorcase that includes a keystone and a mutuled open pediment, flanked by carved lionhead masks above the date 1915.

The southeast elevation features five windows, with plain pilasters at the outer right and left. The west elevation mirrors the southeast elevation.

The building has plated glass glazing in timber sash and case windows throughout, a grey slate roof, and cavetto coped harled stacks with cans. The skews are ashlar coped, and there are cast-iron downpipes with decorative rainwater hoppers.

Inside, the entrance hall is seven-sided, with a mosaic-tiled floor that reflects the decorative plasterwork of the ceiling, which has an oval centre and three sides adorned with keystoned round-headed arches. The interior also features decorative plasterwork cornicing, wainscot, and dado panelling.

The boundary walls consist of low ashlar-coped harled walls with squat square gatepiers.
