Description
East Lodge and Gate Piers at Rankeilour House is a picturesque lodge built in the mid-19th century, designed in an asymmetrical L-plan with a single storey and attic. There is a modern extension to the south. The building is constructed of droved ashlar with polished dressings.
The north elevation features three bays, with the right bay being advanced and gabled. It has a corniced, mullioned and transomed window below a rectangular attic light, while the east gable is similarly designed. The remaining bays are set behind a swept-roofed porch supported by Tuscan columns. The door in the inner bay has a rectangular fanlight, with a bipartite window to the left. The lodge has lattice glazing throughout, finialed gables with coped crow-steps, shaped skewputts, diamond axial stacks, and a slate roof.
The gate piers consist of three corniced square ashlar piers, and there are curved, low, stugged ashlar walls with ashlar coping that connect to the terminal piers. The entrance is adorned with decorative wrought-iron gates.
