Description
North Lodge and Gatepiers at Melville House is a mid-19th century, symmetrical two-storey T-plan double lodge featuring Tudor Gothic details. The building is constructed from snecked and stugged ashlar with polished dressings. The west elevation consists of four bays, with two boldly advanced and gabled inner bays, each showcasing square-headed mullioned and hoodmoulded windows on both floors. The outer bays have lean-to ashlar porches in the re-entrant angles, with pointed-headed hood-moulded doors leading to bipartites on the north and south gables. All windows feature latticed glazing. The eaves band is blocked, and the straight skews are topped with finials. The lodge has symmetrically placed rendered stacks and slate roofs. To the east, there are low modern glass houses. The property is set behind a rubble wall, which includes simple, corniced, square, rubble-built gatepiers.
