Description
Nisbetfield Farmhouse and Steading is a later 19th century two-storey farmhouse that features an asymmetrical design, with a symmetrically planned steading set into the slope to the north. The building is constructed from square whinstone, accented with contrasting long and short ashlar dressings.
The south elevation of the house has two bays, with the door located to the right and accessed by steps. Above the door, there is a first-floor window with a gabled dormer head. The left bay is slightly advanced and gabled, containing single windows. The west elevation is almost identical to the south, but it lacks a door and features bipartites in the left bay. The windows have 12-pane glazing, and the roof has straight skews with apex stacks topped by tall chimney pots, all covered with slate.
The south elevation of the steading includes a two-storey central range that connects to taller three-storey, two-bay piended end blocks that are slightly advanced. The left block has a single segmental-arched cart opening, while the latter extends to the north by ten bays, with four to the north that may be a later addition featuring large rectangular openings. There are modern buildings located to the rear of the steading.
