Description
The gate piers at Home Farm, Over Rankeilour House, were built between 1819 and 1820. This symmetrical home farm was originally a single-storey structure with attics or lofts. It features a domestic block flanked by parallel wings in a U-shaped plan, creating a rectangular courtyard to the south.
The north elevation is constructed of droved yellow ashlar, while the remainder is built from rubble. The central block has four bays, with two taller inner bays that are slightly advanced and topped with a pediment, featuring a door and a window. The outer bays contain single windows, all of which are 12-pane sashes.
The building has symmetrically placed stacks and a piended slate roof. The courtyard elevation includes a door and 12-pane sashes, and the structure has been partly raised to two storeys with a flat roof. Each flanking wing has a door in the pedimented north gable. The west wing contains three segmental-headed cart openings and a large altered rectangular opening facing the courtyard, along with square-headed loft openings. A ramp leads to a large swept-roofed loft opening. The east wing has been partly altered for domestic use, featuring square-headed door and window openings. The south wing has some enlarged rectangular openings and an off-centre two-storey square tower with a pyramidal roof and a weathercock finial. All roofs are slated. The property is set behind a rubble wall that includes corniced, square, dorved ashlar gate piers.
