Description
The South East Gateway in Pittencrieff Park, Dunfermline, was designed by Muirhead and Rutherford in 1928. It features central double wrought-iron gates flanked by single pedestrian gates. The gateway is marked by large central sandstone ashlar gatepiers and smaller outer gatepiers, which are connected to a small section of coursed rockfaced sandstone wall. The design is classical, with rusticated central piers topped by truncated urns. The gatepiers include base courses and moulded panels on the east and west sides, with the central piers showcasing carved wreaths at the top of the panels. There are band courses below the moulded cornices and bases of the truncated urns, while the side piers have cornices beneath stepped coping that is rounded at the center. The gates themselves feature decorative scrolled panels and flat panels with embossed swags at the top of the central gates. The side walls have flat coping.
