Description
An Cala is an 18th-century, two-storey house located on Low Causeway in Culross. It features a later two-storey extension, turret, and single-storey wing added in the 1970s. The building has painted ashlar margins and harled elevations.
On the north (principal) elevation, there is a corniced, moulded architrave doorpiece with a window to the left and two windows to the right. The first floor has two smaller windows at the eaves.
The east elevation is attached to The Haven.
The south elevation showcases a central canted bay window with patio doors in the centre. There are three first-floor dormer windows that break the eaves. To the left, there is a single-storey timber boarded wing with replacement windows and doors. A two-storey semi-circular tower is set back to the right, featuring ground and first-floor windows.
The west elevation has a single first-floor window to the left.
The house predominantly features six-pane timber sash and case windows with horns, along with a timber boarded front door. The original house has a pitched slate roof, while the rear wing has a piended slate roof and the turret has a slated conical roof. A corniced square-plan gable apex stack is located on the west gable.
Inside, the interior has been modernised, featuring a roll-moulded fireplace in the east wall of the ground floor, likely added in the 1970s. A thick, exposed rubble wall from The Haven extends into the east ground floor room of An Cala. The first floor has coved ceilings.
