Description
Abbey View and Post Office is a late 18th century, two-storey, three-bay house that now functions as a post office and shop on the ground floor, with a flat above. The building features black painted ashlar margins, an eaves course, and vertical margins on the main elevation, which is harled.
On the north (principal) elevation, there is a cast-iron letter-box on the far left, marked GVIR by WT Allen & Co, London. To the right and far right are windows, with a central flat-roofed porch flanked by windows on either side. There are two doors leading from the porch, and three evenly spaced windows on the first floor. A door on the far left provides access to the garden and outhouse.
The east elevation is plain, while the south elevation is partially visible, featuring ground floor windows on the far left and far right, with first floor windows centered above. There is a central flat-roofed extension with a small ground floor window to the right and a large first floor window in the center. A small pitched outhouse is attached to the left, with windows on both the left and right returns.
The west elevation is mostly obscured at the ground floor, with a plain gable above. The front of the building has four-pane timber sash and case windows, while the rear has modern fenestration. There is a rear rooflight on the right, and timber boarded doors throughout. The roof is pitched and covered with slate, featuring coped gable apex stacks and circular chimney cans. The raised skews have scroll skewputts on the north side, and there is a tall square chimney for the outhouse.
The interior has a modern shop layout, while other areas were not seen as of 2001.
