Denview, The Causeway, Kennoway

These are a pair of early 19th century single-story cottages located on The Causeway in Kennoway, where the ground slopes to the south. They are built of random rubble stonework, with Merkland Cottage being painted, and have droved ashlar dressings.

The west elevation of each cottage is symmetrical, with a central doorway. The door to Merkland Cottage has a letterbox fanlight, while the door to Denview has plate glass. Windows are positioned in the flanking bays. Merkland Cottage has plate glass glazing in timber sash and case windows, whereas Denview has modern glazing. The roofs are covered in grey slates, and the cottages have coped ashlar stacks topped with thackstanes and cans. The south elevation of Denview features an ashlar-coped skew with a square skewputt.
