Description

2 Croft Road in Markinch is a later 19th-century, two-storey, ten-bay terrace that serves as both shops and dwellings, situated on a corner site. The terrace is irregular, with four bays angled toward Commercial Street. The ground floor features rusticated ashlar and painted cement-render, while the upper floor is finished in ashlar, with rubble on the sides and rear. Notable architectural elements include a base course, a dividing course, a first-floor cill course, and an eaves course.

On the southeast elevation, the six bays on the left are symmetrical, featuring a timber door with a fanlight positioned to the right and left of the centre at ground level, flanked by windows and additional doors in the outer bays. The first floor has regular fenestration, although bays one and three are blocked. The four bays to the right include a shop with a wide, two-leaf part-glazed timber door and a plate glass fanlight to the left, along with two shop windows to the right. The adjacent shop on the left has a door at the centre, with a shop window on the left and another on the right, all topped by a painted dividing band. The first floor has four regularly spaced windows.

The southwest elevation features a small window to the left at the first floor and a broad gablehead stack. The windows facing Commercial Street are timber sash and case with a 12-pane glazing pattern, while the ground floor has plate glass shop windows. The first floor windows on Croft Road are also timber sash and case with plate glass, although the ground floor has uPVC windows. The roof is covered with graded grey slates, and there are cavetto coped ashlar stacks with cans and thackstanes, along with ashlar-coped skews.
