Description
The West United Free Church, located on West Bridge Street in Falkirk, was originally designed by Thomas Stirling in 1799. It features a simple, large gabled rectangular shape with a two-storey design. The church has semi-circular arched upper windows and a horseshoe gallery that runs longitudinally on cast-iron columns. Inside, there are Victorian furnishings and an organ case. In 1884, a bold Renaissance-style forebuilding was added by James Boucher. This central section is characterized by couple-pilasters and a pediment, designed in the Ionic order with fluted necking. It includes a round arched doorpiece and three arched windows above, with flanking aisle sections that each have one window.
