Description

Wilkies, located on Newmarket Street in Falkirk, is a building constructed between 1903 and 1906, which includes a remodeled two-storey structure of earlier date at the south corner. The sections numbered 2-6 were designed by James Strang in 1903, while numbers 8-16 were designed by Alexander Gauld between 1904 and 1906, intended to serve as a hotel.

This building features a three-storey design with a free Renaissance style, constructed from ashlar stone. It includes shallow three-light oriel windows that rise from the cornices of the shopfronts, corner turrets topped with lead cupolas, and a balustraded parapet. The ground floor houses shops, including two well-preserved original shopfronts.
