Description
St Michael's Hall, located on Church Street in Crieff, was begun in 1786 and completed by William Stirling in 1827. This large, rectangular building features five bays and a piend roof, and it was originally a church. The exterior is harled and includes a crenellated, four-stage central tower with band courses.
The south elevation is symmetrical, with the tower projecting from the center bay. Each flanking bay has a tall window, with a tall narrow light on the outer left and a smaller square-headed window on the outer right, topped by a round-headed window.
The tower's first stage has a two-leaf boarded timber square-headed door with a five-part fanlight, along with a small window on the second stage. The third stage features taller windows on the south, east, and west sides, leading to the taller fourth stage, which has louvered bipartite openings on each side.
The west elevation, serving as the entrance, has a two-leaf boarded timber door at the center flanked by tall lights. The east elevation displays square-headed, asymmetrical windows on each floor. The north elevation is mostly blank, with a door and a small window on the outer left.
The timber windows feature stylized multi-pane glazing patterns, and the roof is covered with grey slates. A coped and shouldered brick stack is located on the east side. The interior has been altered, but some boarded dadoes have been retained.
