Description

St Michael's Churchyard in Crieff dates from the later 18th century and features a rubble walled enclosure made from stones of various dates. In the southeast corner, there are small remains of a parish school.

The gravestones within the churchyard have been re-sited and some have been re-carved. They include a variety of carved slabs and moulded apex stones, such as a grave slab memorial for Donald McOmish, an innkeeper from Crieff who died in 1775, and another for William Spottiswoode, who died in 1833. One slab features a relief carved anchor and the inscription indicating it marks the burial of James Barlas, who died in 1815. Among the upright stones is a memorial with the remains of a winged skull, erected by Hugh Comrie Slater in memory of his father, who died in January 1805.

The boundary walls surrounding the churchyard are made of rubble, with some sections capped. There is a pyramidally-coped, square-section gatepier with decorative cast-iron gates leading to Church Street, and similar piers without coping and with ironwork gates leading to Bank Street.
