Description
St James' Church is a late 19th century Gothic church located on a corner site on Thornhill Road in Falkirk. It features a main gabled front facing the street, with a large traceried giant nave window and porches on either side—one leading to the steeple and the other connecting to the hall. The church is constructed of rock-faced red ashlar with dressed detailing and has slated roofs, including a thin slated spire set within a steeple parapet. The hall also has a gabled front facing the street and includes a disabled access ramp made of red engineering brick.
Inside, the church has a T-plan arrangement, with sculptural main capitals and corbels, and an open timber main roof. An organ is located in one transept, and there is a low timber-built pulpit. A notable feature is the impressive leaded glass window from around 1970 in the liturgical east gable. The boundary walls are also made of rock-faced red ashlar and are topped with iron railings.
