Dunbar, Belhaven, Edinburgh Road, Southfield

Dunbar, Belhaven, Edinburgh Road, Southfield is a single-storey house built around 1840, designed in a T-plan with a raised basement. The entrance is positioned at an angle in the north re-entrant corner and features a small gable above. The entrance steps extend over the basement and are bordered by a plain iron balustrade. The exterior is harled with painted margins, quoins, and a door surround, and includes a raised base course, a band course between the basement and ground floor, and cills. Each of the north, south, and east wings has a wide single bay on each face. The house has slated piended roofs with ridge stacks and timber eaves brackets. The west elevation features a slightly advanced bay with a small central gable, while the south re-entrant angle has a later flat-roofed addition. The windows display a variety of glazing patterns, including 18-pane and lying pane glazing in timber sash and case windows.

Inside, there is a shallow-arched window recess with fitted timber panelled shutters and some timber boarding below the windows. The drawing room ceiling features a concave dome. An open timber stair leads to the lower floor and has corkscrew turned timber bannisters, while the basement has a stone floor.
