Summerfield Lodge, High Street, Dunbar

Summerfield is a mid to later 19th century villa with two storeys and a basement, featuring a square plan. The eastern and southern elevations are constructed from squared red rubble, while the northern and western elevations are finished in ashlar with ashlar dressings. The roof is slate, and there are obliquely set, linked diamond stacks on the advanced chimney breasts at the northern and southern fronts, adorned with decorative finials. The main frontage has plate glass sashes, while smaller panes are used elsewhere.

The western entrance front has three bays, with a wide gabled central porch that features a bolection moulding door surround and a hoodmould above a stepping panel. Above the porch, there is a hoodmoulded single window over small windows in the gabled attic. The wider, shallow advanced flanking bays have canted windows on both the ground and first floors, with blind slits and hoodmoulds in the flanking gable heads and a central pediment. The ground and first floors also have three-light, canted bays with a blocking course, and a balcony supported on stone volutes hugs the canted bays and corners, featuring a decorative wrought-iron balustrade. A stone flight of steps bridges the basement recess.

The eastern elevation has three bays, with a projecting two-light window alteration on the left side of the ground floor. It features skewputted, finialled gablet heads with blind slits. The western and southern fronts have smaller recessed eastern gables and a larger advanced gable on the western side. There are false windows on the chimney breasts of the northern side, with random windows in between. The entrance is flanked by a rubble wall and square, capped ashlar piers that have been reset.

A lodge, contemporary with the house, is a single-storey structure with a rectangular plan. It is built from snecked squared rubble with stugged ashlar dressings and a base course, and has ashlar elevations on the east, north, and west sides. The slate roof features gabletted skews and paired octagonal flues on the gable stacks, with a small pane glazing pattern.

The northern entrance front of the lodge has an advanced gabled doorway with a strip fanlight and a panel above. To the left, there is a two-light window, and to the right, a single light window. It is finished with a low parapet wall and decorative wrought-iron railings. The rear southeast elevation has four bays with skewputted gablet heads over windows that break the eaves, featuring narrow arch slits in each bay. There is a modern dormer addition on the eastern side, while the eastern elevation is blank with an advanced chimney breast, mirrored on the western side with flanking windows.
