Description
This building is a 17th century house located behind 71-75 High Street in Dunbar, forming an L-plan with two adjoining wings that have different ridge heights. The structure is made of rendered sandstone rubble and features a pantiled roof with crowsteps and curved beak skewputs. The gable is harled, and there are brick stacks present. The windows display a variety of small-pane glazing patterns.
The east wing is two stories high and has a slated easing course. It includes a pend under a forestair, with a door above and a window to the right. The ground floor to the north is accessed through the pend, although the openings at the rear are blocked. This wing is connected in the courtyard to the north by a single-storey rendered outbuilding with a pantiled roof, which links to number 75 High Street. The rear elevation has random openings and a piended attic dormer.
The south wing has higher eaves and a steeply pitched gable above a three-storey block. The courtyard face features a bowed stair block at the center, with the roof sweeping into the main eaves. The elevation facing Cossarr's Wynd has random windows and three swept dormers that break the eaves. The east gable has three vertically aligned windows to the north. Additionally, number 73, an 18th-century three-storey harled block, serves as an extension to number 71 High Street, with its east end abutting the gable of the 17th-century house. It features a panelled door to the right, a parapet to a small forecourt, and decorative iron railings.
