Description
The Old Ale and Porter House in Tyninghame is an early 18th century single-storey cottage that is connected to a mid-18th century two-storey house, currently functioning as a single unit with modified openings. The structure is built from random rubble, featuring some droved ashlar dressings, and parts of it are rendered and lined to resemble ashlar.
The single-storey cottage has six bays and has undergone significant alterations to its doors and windows. The eastern gable has a steep pitch and includes a window inserted to the left, along with evidence of a former gabled building that was attached at a lower level. The sash and case windows display a small-pane glazing pattern, and the ashlar gable wallhead stacks are notable features. The roof is covered with pantiles.
