Description
Glengyle House, located at 27 Dalrymple Loan in Musselburgh, is an earlier 19th-century building that was redressed in the Jacobethan style in the later 19th century. It is a two-storey, three-bay house situated at the end of an irregular terrace, with a fourth bay serving as a pend. The exterior is harled with chamfered arrises.
The principal elevation features a harled surface with a gabled porch addition at the center, which includes a four-centre arched doorway, a curvilinear gablehead, and a small shield panel. There is a window on each floor in the flanking bays, positioned under the eaves on the first floor. The outer bay to the left has a four-centre arched carriage pend at ground level, complete with a hoodmould and paired narrow windows above.
At the rear, there is a gabled wing that projects out. The principal bays currently have modern glazing, which is scheduled for replacement with sympathetic glazing, as of 1994; the original windows featured horizontal-pane cross casements. However, the pend bay retains horizontal-pane casement glazing.
The roof is covered with graded grey slates and features ridge tiles. The curvilinear gables are ashlar-coped, with grouped, polygonal, and coped stacks.
The boundary wall is harled and runs along the road, featuring recessed panels and rounded coping, with terminal piers that have pyramidal coping. The side walls and piers are taller than the main wall.
