46 Main Street, Newhaven, Edinburgh

46 Main Street in Newhaven, Edinburgh, is an early 19th-century, two-storey, three-bay house that is part of a terrace and has been reoriented. The front is made of stugged and coursed yellow sandstone, featuring droved long and short quoins. The windows have polished and painted surrounds with projecting cills. Access to the house is at the rear through a rendered pend located in the outer left bay. The rear elevation is harled and limewashed, with raised and painted cement surrounds around the openings.

On the south elevation facing Main Street, the original doorway has been filled in to create a window in the bay to the left of the centre. There are single windows flanking the ground floor and single windows in the first floor bays to the left and outer right. The pend entry is through the bay on the outer right.

The north elevation, which serves as the entrance, has a regular arrangement of single openings. Both elevations feature 12-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with grey slate in diminishing courses and has stone skews. The apex stacks on the east and west sides are harled and limewashed, topped with precast concrete coping and circular cans. There is also a rooflight located at the centre of the roof.
