Building To Rear, 72 High Street, Dunbar

The building at the rear of 72 High Street in Dunbar is an early 18th-century, two-storey house with an oblong plan. It is constructed of red sandstone rubble that has been severely pointed. The building is adjacent to a rigg wall to the south, which is shared with a similar house that is now in ruins in the adjoining close.

On the east elevation, there is a dog-leg sandstone forestair, which is abutted by the projecting gable of the High Street building. The first floor features windows to the south, and there is a doorway with a derelict timber porch remaining.

The north elevation includes a low doorway leading under the forestair on the east side, and a taller ground floor doorway with a window above it on the west side.

On the west elevation, there are two deep-set ground floor windows and first floor windows to the south. The building has small-pane sash windows with timber lintels, a piended pantiled roof, and a mutual gable stack.
