Victoria House, 66 High Street, North Berwick

Victoria House, located at 66 High Street in North Berwick, is an earlier 19th century reconstruction of a previous building. It features a two-storey, oblong plan and is constructed of rubble that is rendered and lined to resemble ashlar on the south, east, and west facades of the main block, which also has raised margins.

On the south gable, there is a projecting arcaded shop front with a recessed central doorway. Flanking the doorway are plate glass windows, supported by twisted columns and panelled piers at the corners. Above this, there is a frieze featuring fluted panels at the angles and a moulded cornice. The first floor has two segmentally arched, moulded windows, and the skews are adorned with moulded skewputts. Scrolls flank the gable head stack.

The east elevation has three symmetrical bays on the higher south block, with large plate glass windows set in recessed panels at the ground floor. A frieze and moulded cornice act as a dividing band course, with three first floor windows above. The lower block features a fanlit doorway to the right and a first floor window above it.

The west elevation also has three bays on the main block, with first floor windows and a single ground floor window to the left. The lower block includes a first floor window.

The building showcases a variety of glazing, predominantly small-pane at the first floor. The main block has a pantiled roof, while the lower block has a slate roof, both with plain raised skews and gablehead stacks.
