The Cottage, Rig Street, Aberlady

This is an 18th century cottage located on Rig Street in Aberlady, with alterations made in the 20th century. The exterior is constructed of random rubble with margins renewed in concrete. The cottage has a single storey and features a door positioned to the right of centre, with windows on either side. Additional windows are present to the left, including one small, square window. All openings are situated high under the eaves. A single opening is located in the east gable. The windows are 4-pane sash and case, and fitted with secondary glazing. The steeply pitched roof is covered with red pantiles, featuring straight skews and coped rubble stacks. A rubble coped retaining wall, partially replaced with a low modern fence, is present. The building was likely originally used as a cottage and workshop. An Ordnance Survey map from 1854 shows the property’s location.
