Description

Hall House, dated 1884 and designed by William Young, is a self-important two-storey, L-shaped house situated within a terrace of similar two-storey, three-bay buildings. The exterior is constructed from squared and snecked bull-faced sandstone with ashlar dressings, including moulded margins and a base course. Stone mullions and transoms are also present. A stone porch with a cornice and blocking course is located in the re-entrant angle, featuring a panelled door to the left return and a bipartite window facing the road.

The central bay is slightly advanced, with a chamfered return to the left which forms a half-canted window at both ground and first floor levels. A Tudor arched pend is located to the outer left at ground level, containing a two-leaf panelled door. To the outer right is an advanced gabled wing with a four-light window at ground level, a tripartite window at first floor, and a single light with a small bipartite window above on its return. Most windows are sash and case, with various glazing patterns.

The roof is covered with purple slates, featuring a hipped section above the projecting gable and a continuous pitch and half-piend over the chamfered bay. Stone eaves brackets are present, along with crowstepped gables, ashlar coped stacks, and original cans. The house is shown on the Ordnance Survey map of Haddingtonshire from 1892.
