Description

Park Dale, at 3 Winton Place, Aberlady, is a pair of two-storey terraced houses dating from 1880 to 1885. They were constructed with stugged squared and snecked grey sandstone, incorporating base and band courses. The windows are mullioned bipartites. A central segmental arched pend allows vehicular access, featuring a studded wooden carriage door with a smaller pedestrian doorway incorporated. Doorways are located on either side of the pend, each with a panelled door. Bipartite windows are present in the outer bays at both ground and first floor levels. Above the doors on the first floor are single windows, and a plaque with a trefoil motif is centrally positioned. Three piend-roofed dormers, slate-hung, rise from the roof. The windows are sash and case, with plate glass and a two-pane glazing pattern. The roof is covered in grey slates, with coped ashlar skews and stacks. Decorative cast-iron gutter brackets are also present. A brick forestair with iron railings is at the rear, leading to a central door above the pend.

The houses are listed for their contribution to the Main Street and their survival in their original form. Historical records suggest a possible earlier house existed on the site.
