Winton, Winton Place, Aberlady

This is a late 18th century house situated at Winton Place, Aberlady, which was altered around 1885, particularly to its front facade. It is a two-storey house with an attic, originally comprising three bays. The exterior is constructed of stugged, squared, and snecked grey sandstone, with painted margins and a decorative band course, and stop-chamfered arrises. The central entrance features a panelled door and a bordered fanlight. To the right of the entrance is a single window at ground level, while a canted bay with a cornice and blocking course is situated to the left. There are three windows on the first floor. Two piend-roofed dormers, each with slate hanging, project from the attic. A U-shaped stair tower is located at the rear, connecting to the left of centre and having a conical slated roof, irregular and altered fenestration, and a brick symmetrical arch to its doorway. The windows are sash and case type, with 12-pane and 4-pane glazing patterns. The roof is covered in grey slates, with ashlar coped mutual gable skews and stacks, and decorative cans on the left. A low wall, constructed of ashlar and coped, encloses a small front garden.

The building is listed at grade B, despite later additions and alterations, due to evidence of its original form and the presence of the rear stair tower.
