Description
This is an 18th-century dovecot, later converted in 1971 as a residence by Morris and Steedman. It is situated adjacent to the walled garden of the manse to the north. The dovecot is constructed of pink sandstone rubble with broadly droved ashlar dressings, incorporating concrete repairs. The original doorway in the centre of the south elevation has been blocked and replaced with a large semi-circular window inserted in 1971. A taller doorway has been added to the left of the original position. A rat course is visible on the remaining sides, and square windows have been altered or inserted. A further large, modern doorway has been added to the north side. The roof features ashlar coped skews, and the north wall has been raised at the centre, currently supporting a flue.
Historically, the dovecot was apparently built to increase the stipend of the local minister and to provide funds for the poor. The dovecot is situated near the church.
