Stables, St Michaels, Inveresk Village Road, Inveresk

The stables, built in the early 20th century, are part of the St Michael’s estate in Inveresk. They are a two-storey, U-plan building with a triple-gabled slate roof featuring red ridge tiles, scalloped and pierced barge boards, and half-timbered gable ends. The front elevation is near symmetrical, with twin gables; the left gable has a window on both the ground and first floors, while the right gable has a bipartite ground-floor window below a hayloft door. A recessed portion features two dormer-headed windows beneath gablets. The courtyard has a larger gable over central pierced curvilinear timber gates, and smaller gables over flanking windows. The western return elevation includes a forestair leading to a first-floor porch over the entrance to a coachman's flat.
