Description
This is a circa 1829 lodge designed by William Burn, forming part of the Gilmerton House estate. The lodge is a single-storey building constructed from squared and coursed sandstone with contrasting dressings. It features a gabled porch and a canted bay window facing north. Windows are set into each gable return. Later, harled extensions have been added to the rear. The windows are small diamond-paned casements. Characteristic features include bracketed, overhanging eaves, grey slates, and an ashlar coped ridge stack. Two square ashlar gate piers flank the entrance, each topped with a scrolled ornament and ball finials. The lodge and gate piers are ancillary to Gilmerton House and the Eight Arches, which are listed separately. Original plans for alterations and additions by William Burn are held within the National Monuments Record of Scotland.
