Description
Lauder Foot Bridge, located on Dean Road in Kilmarnock, was built in 1905. It is a steel cable suspension bridge featuring tubular pylon end supports topped with spiked ball finials, and a decorative arch made of latticed steel. The original squared piers are concealed by later stone retaining walls. The bridge has wire rope and steel railings, which include later mesh infill. Following a collapse at the time of its opening, three concrete strengthening cutwater piers were added. Additionally, there is a steel Y-plan support with a cross brace inset into each supporting structure of the bridge, which is now supported by retaining girders.
