Description

26 and 28 High Street in Newmilns is an early 19th-century, two-storey, three-bay traditional terraced house with an additional two-bay extension that turns the corner to the north, now combined into one structure. The exterior is harled with ashlar dressings, quoin strips, and an eaves course.

On the northwest elevation, the three-bay house features a central block pedimented door that is deep-set and includes a fanlight, with windows above and on either side. The two bays angled to the left have a door on the outer left, which was formerly a pend and has a fanlight, along with a window to the right and a tall window at the centre of the first floor above.

The southeast elevation presents a flush four-bay wall with regular window spacing, and there is a lean-to addition at ground level on the left side. The northeast elevation is adjoined to a later, taller terraced house, No 30 High Street, while the southwest elevation is connected to the roofless end of the terrace at 24 High Street.

The windows were blocked in 1999, and there is a gablehead stack on the mutual gable. The roof is covered with grey slates. The interior was not seen in 1999.
