Description
The Black Bull Hotel, located at 40-43 The Square in Cumnock, is an 18th-century building featuring a main centre part that is two stories high with five windows, constructed from diagonally droved ashlar. This central section was raised to three stories in the later 18th century and is recessed between two gable-fronted wings. The ground floor extends almost to the line of the wings and is adorned with a lattice balustrade and urns. The southern gable-fronted wing is also from the 18th century and has two windows. The northern wing, built in 1906, is a tall two-story structure with an attic, featuring a crowstepped gable on the west side and a bow front on the north with a central crowstepped gable. The building has painted surfaces with black-painted margins.
