Description
The Old Church in The Square, Cumnock, was designed by James Maitland Wardrop of Brown & Wardrop in 1867, replacing an earlier church from 1754. It is built in an early decorated style and features a southeast tower topped with a pyramid roof, which is truncated by a timber belfry, as the intended spire was never constructed. There is a porch on the southern front, and double transepts on the east and west sides. The northern side includes an apsidal feature that contains a vestry and the Bute family vault. The church is constructed of snecked rubble with freestone dressings and has slated roofs. The stained glass windows, created by Ballantyne in 1867, add to the church's character.
