Description
The Royal Hotel, located at 44 The Square in Cumnock, is a mid-19th century building featuring two storeys and an attic. The northern section has a south-facing window arrangement with tripartite end windows on the first floor, all topped with pediments. Above, there are dormers that are both consoled and pedimented. The ground-floor openings have been altered, and the roof is slated. The southern section, dating from around 1890, also has two storeys and an attic, with two tripartite windows and dormers above on the west flank. The south front includes three single windows and one tripartite window, along with a red snecked rubble doorpiece that is consoled and segmentally pedimented, featuring a head keystone. The first-floor windows are architraved and corniced, and there are consoled and pedimented dormers in the slated attic, as well as a broad corner oriel.
