Description

33-35 South Tay Street in Dundee is a terraced house built around 1820 and remodeled by C and L Ower in 1881. It stands three stories high with an attic and features three bays, showcasing classical detailing. The exterior is constructed of coursed sandstone rubble with painted timber and cement rendered dressings, while the rear is made of random rubble. The slate roof is complemented by a cill band on the first and second floors, an eaves course, and a corniced blocking course with a parapet and dies. The ground floor has architraved and corniced windows set in margined panels, while the first floor features architraved windows with pilastered and lugged margins on the center window. The second floor has a margined window in the center flanked by pilastered windows, and there are slate-hung voluted dormers topped with finialled round-headed scalloped pediments.

The front elevation includes a wide two-leaf panelled door at the center with a moulded round-headed fanlight and a pilastered doorpiece featuring polished Peterhead granite nookshafts. Above the door is a balcony with an arcaded balustrade, flanked by windows on either side. There are three windows on both the first and second floors, along with two dormers. The rear elevation has an irregular arrangement of single and bipartite windows, along with two canted dormers. The interior has not been seen.
