Camperdown Zoo, Camperdown Park, Dundee

Camperdown Zoo, located in Camperdown Park, Dundee, was designed by John Hay in 1807. It features a large rectangular walled garden with external walls made of rubble and ashlar copes, and a cavity brick-built internal face. The garden includes large segmental arched openings.

On the northeast elevation, known as the "Pineapple House," there is a projecting ashlar pavilion that has arched openings, an impost-level band course, and a main cornice, topped with a slate roof and a pineapple finial. Lean-to worksheds with large gable openings are present; the western shed has been somewhat altered, while the eastern shed features a 10-bay design with 6 windows and 4 doors, adjacent to a modern two-storey house.

At the northeast angle, there is a two-storey gardener's house with overhanging eaves. This house has a brick-built gable facing the garden, adorned with ashlar dressings, cornices, and vertically channelled stacks. The windows are of the sash and case type.

The original internal arrangement of terracing and compartments has been removed to create the zoo. There is also an unusual form of cast-iron framed greenhouses, which were replaced by standard aluminium structures around 1980.
