Description

2 Laurel Bank is a semi-detached pair of flatted villas designed by David MacKenzie around 1840. The building features a symmetrical U-plan and consists of two storeys, a basement, and an attic, with four bays. The front and sides are made of ashlar stone, which includes a first-floor band course, a main cornice, and a blocking course, while the rear is constructed from coursed rubble.

The south elevation has broad canted end bays and single-light inner bays, with canted dormers positioned above. The side elevations are three bays wide, featuring a central doorpiece with twin pilasters and a cornice. The bay to the right is blind, and there is a corniced wallhead stack in the centre.

At the rear, there are projecting wings with wallhead stacks, one of which for No 2 has been cut down, along with inner canted dormers. The roof is piended and platformed, made of slate, with wallhead and ridge stacks. The windows are sash and case, with a two-pane glazing pattern on the south elevation and small panes on most windows at the sides and rear.

The property is complemented by square pyramidal-capped gatepiers and low boundary walls to Laurel Bank, which are adorned with cast and wrought-iron railings. The ashlar boundary walls rise up Constitution Road (where the railings have been removed) and continue to return to Prospect Place.
