Description

13-19 Panmure Street in Dundee is a four-storey and attic commercial building designed by Alexander Johnston in 1872, showcasing Baroque detailing. The structure is arranged in two symmetrical five-bay sections, featuring an ashlar front with rubble on the sides and rear, topped by a slate roof.

The ground floor has single channelled and paired vermiculated pilasters, with a consoled cornice above that supports seven giant Corinthian engaged columns. These columns rise to a full entablature at the second floor, adorned with lion masks, paterae, dentils, and mutules. Each section is topped with small broken pediments, and the third floor includes channelled pilaster strips and an eaves course. The windows are architraved, with cornices on the first floor and pediments over the central windows of each section. The third floor features margined windows with 2-pane timber sash and case glazing, although some have been altered to modern designs. The building also has canted flat-roofed dormers and ashlar-coped skews with corniced end stacks.

The front elevation includes a modern shopfront that does not match the original style, spanning each five-bay section. There are mask-keystoned round-headed arch doorcases on the left and right, each with panelled doors and fanlights. The far left has a window converted into a door, while the far right has two doors formed from windows. Each upper floor contains ten windows, and there are four dormers. The right return gable features two additional windows. The interior has not been seen.
