Description

6 Commercial Street in Port William is a house dating from the late 19th century, originally featuring commercial or public premises. It is a two-storey building with the first floor set in the attic, constructed from squared and snecked whin masonry, with red sandstone ashlar dressings that include chamfered arrises and rybated margins, as well as quoins.

The north elevation facing Commercial Street has a gabled porch that is prominent at the center, with a door to the north and a small ashlar panel above it. There is a small window on the west return. To the left, there is a gabled bay that features a bipartite window on the ground floor and a window in the gablehead. To the right, an advanced pyramidal-roofed block has a window facing north.

The building has modern uPVC windows, red sandstone coped skews, and block skewputts. A red sandstone ashlar coped ridge stack is present, along with an ashlar ball finial on the left gable and a leaded ball finial on the pyramidal roof. The roof is covered with graded grey slates.
