Description
Grierson House is a two-story villa built in 1932-34 by James Flett, designed as an observation villa. It is an H-plan building with Art Deco detailing. Constructed from bull-faced red sandstone with ashlar dressings, the villa features cill courses, lintel courses, a cornice, and a tall parapet composed of metal balustrading set between moulded ashlar pedestals. Architraved windows are a prominent feature.
The west-facing (garden) elevation has a recessed central block with a glazed verandah supported by cast iron columns. Above are six windows on the first floor, with three-bay advanced end returns. The bays have paired windows to the centre, flanked by single windows, each bay framed by stylized pilasters, and the centre bay surmounted by a moulded parapet.
The north-facing side elevation is symmetrical, displaying eight bays on the ground floor and seven bays on the first floor. A mix of single and paired windows are present, with an architraved door to the far left, incorporating a two-leaf door and fanlight. The south-facing side is a mirror image of the north.
The east-facing (rear) elevation consists of a recessed centre block with advanced wings and symmetrically disposed elevations. The windows are 12-pane timber sash and case, and the roof is flat. Cast iron rainwater goods are visible. Modern disabled ramps have been added.
The interior of the building has not been inspected.
