Mill, Newmilns

This 19th-century mill in Newmilns includes a kiln and grain store, situated on steeply sloping ground next to the River Bladnoch. The building is made of rubble, painted white on the north, east, and west sides, with ashlar cooping on the main skews. It features a gabled block running north to south, with a single storey on the north side and two storeys on the south side. The southern section shows the shaft opening of a former water wheel, along with a grain store window in the gable head. There is a tall door on the higher ground to the south that leads into the grain store, which also has a gablehead window. Lean-to additions with catslide roofs are present on the east and west elevations, along with a further gabled addition running east to west on the east elevation, which includes wide machinery slapping in the gable end and brick jambs. The fixed small-pane windows are in a ruinous condition, and there is a stable door leading to the grain store. The principal roofs are covered with graded grey slates, while the east-west workshop has a corrugated asbestos roof.
