Description
The Manse in New Luce, dating from around 1795 and remodelled and extended in the mid 19th century, is a two-storey, L-plan former manse. The original rectangular-plan house from 1795 may have been raised in the mid 19th century, with a contemporary addition of a slightly lower ridged jamb to the west, creating the L-plan to the southwest. The exterior is finished in painted rubble and render, featuring painted raised margins on the south and west sides, with concrete lintels and raised cills on the north side.
On the south elevation, which serves as the entrance, there are two bays on the left side from the mid 19th century. The entrance door is located in the bay to the right, positioned at the re-entrant angle, and features a recessed pilastered doorcase with a fanlight above. There is a window above the door and another window in the left bay. The gable of the original house is advanced to the right, with a window at the centre on the ground floor. The west return has windows on both floors and a slate-hung gabled dormer window above. The two bays on the left and the west return are finished in painted rubble.
The west elevation is gabled and has windows on both floors at the outer left and right.
The north elevation features a stair window at the centre, with a smaller window below it. There is a window to the right on the first floor. The gable is slightly advanced to the left, with a half-piended canted window to the right and a window to the left on the ground floor, along with a window at the centre on the first floor. The right side is finished in painted rubble.
The east elevation has a gabled outhouse to the right and a lean-to that spans the remaining length of the ground floor. There is a window on the north return and a door to the right of centre, flanked by windows leading to the lean-to. A window is located far right on the north side, along with a boarded door to the south for the outhouse. The slightly advanced bay, which was the former stair bay, has a very small 4-pane window to the right of centre on the first floor, with a narrow window flanking the advanced bay to the right, and additional windows to the left and right. Most of the windows are 12-pane glazing in sash and case style, with some plate glass on the north side. The gablehead stacks are rendered on the south, west, and north sides, and the roof is covered with grey slates, featuring no skews and octagonal cans.
The property is enclosed by a tall rubble boundary wall topped with semicircular tile coping. The gatepiers are chamfered and square, rendered with pyramidal capping, and there is a modern timber gate.
