Description
The Abbey National building at 53-55 High Street in Lockerbie is a bank constructed in the later 19th century. It is a three-storey, three-bay structure featuring Renaissance architectural details. The exterior is finished with stugged coursers and polished dressings, along with architraves and rusticated quoins. To the right, there is a door framed by a columned and balustraded doorpiece, although the doorway and ground floor glazing have likely been renewed with plate glass in the 1930s. The first-floor windows include an inner tripartite arrangement that is topped with segmental pediments. The building is capped with a dentilled main cornice, has corniced end stacks, and is covered by a piended slate roof.
