Description
The building at 59 and 61 High Street in Lanark is a classical bank constructed in 1829. It is two storeys high and features three bays, with an additional bay added to the west. The exterior is finished in polished ashlar, with a black marble plinth added around 1930. The original design includes a central door flanked by a shallow projecting portico, which is supported by outer piers and fluted Doric columns. Above the portico, there is an entablature and a blocking course. All windows are adorned with architraves, and there is a band course that runs between the ground and first floors, along with a main cornice and blocking course at the top. The western addition is set in a shallow recess and has paired windows on the ground floor, with one window above that breaks through the band course. The roof is a double M shape and covered with slate, featuring a blocking course at the stacks.
