Description

Circa 1860 house in the Baronial style of David Bryce

enclosing a circa 1800 house to N. 2-storeys and attics,

asymmetrical elevations with Baronial details. Coursed

rubble, polished granite angle and window margins.

Entrance front has boldly advanced gabled bays flanking

recessed bay, to right further advanced gabled bay (part of

earlier house). To centre bay moulded corbel course over

ground, doorway with plain granite jambs and sandstone panel

above. All single light sash and case windows with 12 pane

glazing. S elevation 3-bay with typical Brycean motif to

right of projecting canted window to ground corbelled to

square at 1st with crowstepped gable, corbelled tourelle to

angle. Tripartite window to left and 2 1st floor single

lights with decorative pedimented dormer heads. Small-pane

windows to ground, plate glass to 1st.

Crowstepped gables with finial or stack at apex, dormers with

stone finials. Corniced stacks with octagonal cans, slate

roofs.

INTERIOR: Panelled doors and shutters. Cornices and

plasterwork good but restrained.
