Description

Rutherford Hall, located on High Street in Gatehouse of Fleet, dates from around 1840. This three-bay rectangular building is designed in a neo-Gothic style and was originally a hall or church. It features pointed-arch windows and a tower at the south gable. The walls are constructed of rubble with dressed sandstone margins. The windows include single light lancets with intricate small-pane honeycomb glazing.

At the south gable, there are pointed-arch doorways that have modern glazed doors, with blind bipartite windows above them flanking a square tower. The tower is four stages high and has rusticated quoins, with sandstone strings separating the stages. The ground level features a keyblocked doorway with double-leaf panelled doors and round-arched openings. The second stage has single light windows, while the third stage contains blind panels. The fourth stage is adorned with tripartite louvered openings. The tower is topped with an embattled parapet and has pinnacles at the corners. The building has an M-plan slate roof.
